How Much Money Can You Make Selling on Etsy?
Discover realistic Etsy income ranges, profit margins, fees, and proven tips to boost sales so you can grow your handmade or digital product shop confidently.
I’m coming back to selling on Etsy after a few years away and I’m confused about how shipping money shows up in my order totals and payouts.
A buyer paid a shipping charge at checkout, and I bought the shipping label through Etsy for a lower amount. When I review the order and payment account, I don’t clearly see the shipping amount listed the way I expected, so it’s hard to tell how Etsy is calculating my net earnings.
Where does the customer’s shipping payment appear now, and how are shipping charges, label purchases, and related fees reflected in the final payout?
Hi! On Etsy now, the buyer’s shipping payment usually isn’t shown as a separate “shipping deposit” line the way you might expect—it’s rolled into the order’s Sales credit (the money coming in), and then your shipping label purchase shows up separately as its own debit (money going out). So the shipping money is there, it’s just not presented as “shipping in / label out” right next to each other unless you know where to look.
Here’s how it typically breaks down in your Finances → Payment account:

Money out (debits):

A couple quick tips to make it easier to verify:
If you want, paste a sanitized example of what you’re seeing (just the line item names and amounts—no buyer info), and I’ll help you map each line to “shipping collected,” “label cost,” and “fees” so your net payout makes sense.
