How do I set higher Etsy shipping rates for Hawaii and other US territories?

I sell physical products on Etsy and use fixed shipping prices in my shipping profiles. When I get an order going to Hawaii, Etsy applies my standard “United States” shipping rate, but my carrier charges a much higher amount to ship there.

Is there a way to set a separate shipping price for Hawaii (or US territories) without changing my mainland US rate, or do I need to handle those orders another way (like a separate shipping profile or shipping upgrade)?

Hi! Unfortunately, with fixed shipping prices in an Etsy shipping profile, Etsy treats “United States” as one destination—you can’t set a separate fixed rate just for Hawaii/Alaska or U.S. territories (Puerto Rico, Guam, etc.) while keeping a different “mainland US” rate in the same profile.

If you need higher (accurate) shipping to Hawaii/territories, these are the practical options sellers use:

  1. Switch that profile to calculated shipping (best fix)
  • Calculated shipping prices can reflect the real carrier cost by destination/zone, so Hawaii and territories won’t be charged the same as mainland.
  • This is the cleanest buyer experience and avoids surprise “shipping surcharges.”
  1. Keep fixed shipping, but handle the “non-mainland” orders manually
  • If you want to keep your simple mainland flat rate, you can message the buyer and offer a choice:
    • Cancel/refund the order and have them repurchase via a custom listing (or updated listing) with the correct shipping price, or
    • If the extra cost is small, you can just eat it (not ideal, but simple).
  • I’d avoid shipping “invoice me the difference” style arrangements—Etsy doesn’t really have a built-in way to safely collect an after-the-fact shipping surcharge on an order.
  1. Price it for the worst case (simple, but can hurt conversion)
  • Raise your “United States” fixed rate enough to cover Hawaii/territories, then compensate mainland buyers by slightly lowering item price (or offering occasional promotions). This can reduce sales if your shipping looks high in search.

If you tell me which carrier you use (USPS/FedEx/UPS) and whether you ship lightweight parcels or bigger/heavier boxes, I can suggest the least-painful setup (calculated vs. fixed + workflow) for your shop.
