Etsy Featured Listings: How to Curate Your Shop Homepage
Etsy featured listings help spotlight bestsellers on your Shop Home; pick 4 (or sections), order them for cohesive photos, and rotate a queued set for seasons.
I run an Etsy shop and I shipped a physical order a few days ago using a purchased shipping label. The tracking hasn’t updated at all and still only shows “label created,” even though I dropped it off and usually get it scanned.
Should I wait for the carrier to update the tracking, or proactively message the customer and explain the delay? If I do message them, what’s the best way to word it and when should I escalate with the carrier?
Hi! If tracking still says “label created” a few days after drop-off, I’d message the customer now—proactively and calmly—while you also start checking with the carrier. Sometimes the first acceptance scan gets missed and the package “wakes up” at the next facility, but from a buyer’s perspective “label created” looks like it never shipped, so a quick note usually prevents worry (and “Help with order” messages).
If it’s only been 1–3 business days
If it’s been ~3+ business days with no scan (or the buyer needs it soon)
Here’s a customer message you can copy/paste (send it as soon as you notice the non-scan)
“Hi [Name]! Quick update on your order: I dropped your package off with [Carrier] on [Day]. The tracking is still showing ‘label created,’ which sometimes happens when the first scan is missed—then it updates at the next sorting facility. I’m keeping an eye on it and I’m also checking in with the carrier. If it hasn’t updated by [tomorrow / the next business day], I’ll follow up again and we’ll make sure you’re taken care of. Thanks so much for your patience!”
A couple of practical tips for next time (so this doesn’t keep happening)
If you tell me which carrier you used (USPS/UPS/FedEx) and whether you got a receipt, I can suggest the best exact escalation path for that carrier.
