Why can buyers still choose USPS on Etsy after I set FedEx-only shipping?

I sell physical products on Etsy and I’m trying to offer FedEx as the only shipping option. I created a new shipping profile with FedEx, removed the old profile, and applied the new one, but customers are still seeing USPS as a selectable method at checkout.

What settings should I check to make sure USPS isn’t offered anywhere (shipping profiles, listing-level settings, calculated shipping/carrier services, or upgrades), and how do I confirm the correct profile is actually applied to every listing?

Hi! The most common reason buyers still see USPS after you “switch to FedEx-only” is that at least one listing is still using calculated shipping (USPS-based) or has a shipping upgrade that’s tied to USPS services. Etsy’s calculated shipping for US shops is essentially USPS-only, so if any listing is still set to “Calculate them for me,” USPS can keep showing up at checkout.

Here’s what to check (in the order that usually finds the culprit fastest):

1) Make sure your “FedEx-only” profile is NOT calculated shipping

In Shop Manager → Settings → Shipping settings (or Delivery settings) → Shipping profiles, edit the profile you want to use and confirm:

  • Shipping costs is set to “I’ll enter fixed costs manually” (not “Calculate them for me”).
  • The services/rates you’re offering in that profile don’t include any USPS services (if you see USPS service names at all, that profile is effectively USPS-based).

If you truly need Etsy to auto-calculate rates at checkout, that’s where USPS tends to sneak back in. If you want FedEx only as a selectable method, fixed/manual rates are the safer setup.

2) Check Shipping Upgrades (they can add USPS back at checkout)

Even if your main shipping option is correct, upgrades can create extra choices buyers can click (and they’re easy to forget).

  • Go to Settings → Shipping/Delivery settings → Rates & upgrades
  • Look for Delivery upgrades being Enabled
  • Then check whether any upgrade you added (in the profile or listing) references USPS or is set up in a way that Etsy maps to USPS services.

If you want “FedEx only,” the cleanest approach is to disable upgrades entirely, or only offer upgrades you’re comfortable fulfilling with FedEx (and name them generically like “Express shipping” rather than “USPS Priority,” etc.).

3) Confirm EVERY listing is actually using the new profile (bulk + filters)

It’s very common for a few listings to still be on an old profile (or on “custom shipping options”).

Do this:

  1. Shop Manager → Listings
  2. Use filters to filter by Shipping/Delivery profile
    • Check your new FedEx profile and see what’s included
    • Also filter for “No shipping/delivery profile” (or anything similar) and fix those
  3. Select listings in bulk → Editing options → Change shipping profiles → choose your FedEx profile → Apply

Tip: Even if you “removed the old profile,” some listings may have been set to custom shipping at the listing level, so they won’t follow your new profile until you explicitly switch them.

4) Spot-check at the listing level (a few problem listings)

Open 2–3 listings that you know are showing USPS and verify in the listing editor:

  • The shipping section shows your intended shipping profile name
  • It’s not set to calculated shipping (wording like “Calculate them for me” is the giveaway)
  • There aren’t listing-specific upgrades added there

5) How to “confirm” from a buyer’s perspective

After changes, give it a few minutes, then:

  • Preview the listing on desktop (or incognito/private window)
  • Add to cart and go to checkout far enough to see shipping options
If USPS still appears, it almost always traces back to (1) a listing still on calculated shipping, or (2) an upgrade.

If you tell me whether you’re currently using calculated shipping anywhere (even for some items), and whether you have Delivery upgrades enabled, I can help you pinpoint the exact setting that’s causing USPS to appear.
