Why did my Etsy listings switch from manual renew to auto-renew?

I run an Etsy shop, and I keep my listings set to manual renewal because I prefer to control when they renew. When I checked my listings today, I noticed that they’re all set to auto-renew even though I didn’t intentionally change them.

What could cause Etsy listings to switch from manual renew to auto-renew, and how can I change them back (and prevent it from happening again)?

Hi! This usually happens when something “touches” your listings in bulk—like a bulk edit/bulk renew action, editing/renewing from the Etsy Seller app, or a third‑party integration (Printful, Shopify sync tools, inventory managers, etc.) that has permission to manage listings—because those tools can silently re-save the renewal setting as auto-renew when they update the listing.

A few common causes I see:

  • Bulk actions in Listings Manager: If you selected multiple listings and ran a bulk action (even for something unrelated like updating tags/sections/prices), Etsy can re-save the renewal option across the selected listings.
  • Renew flow / “renew now” prompts: When you renew listings (or confirm renewal choices), it’s easy to accidentally leave “renew automatically” selected, and that choice can apply to more than one listing depending on how you renewed.
  • Using the Etsy Seller app: The app’s quick actions/renew screens make it easy to toggle auto-renew without realizing it (especially if you’re moving fast).
  • Third-party apps/integrations: Anything connected to your shop that edits listings or inventory may push updates that reset renewal preferences to automatic.
  • Another user/account access: If you have a shop partner/staff account, or you were logged in on another device/browser, someone (or you, earlier) may have changed it.

How to switch them back to manual (fastest way)

  1. Shop Manager → Listings
  2. Select the listings (or select all)
  3. Choose More actions (or the bulk actions menu)
  4. Pick Change renewal options
  5. Select Manual and save

On the Etsy Seller app, open a listing, tap the menu, and look for the renewal/renewal options area to switch it back to manual (you may need to do it per listing depending on what the app shows you).

How to prevent it happening again

  • Check your integrations: In Shop Manager, review any connected apps/services and remove anything you don’t actively use (or limit access if the tool offers that). If you do use an integration, look for its “listing defaults,” “auto relist,” or “auto renew” settings.
  • Be careful with bulk edits: Before you confirm a bulk action, scan for anything related to “renewal options” or “auto-renew” in the confirmation screens.
  • Do a quick spot-check after big edits: After using quick edit/in-line editing or uploading via a tool, check 2–3 listings to confirm the renewal option didn’t flip.
  • If it keeps flipping with no integrations: Try repeating the change from a desktop browser (not the app), then sign out of other devices. If it still changes again, it’s worth contacting Etsy Support and telling them the approximate date you noticed the switch (for you, that’s April 7, 2026) and that you didn’t intentionally change renewal options.

If you tell me whether you use any sync/POD tools (Printful, Printify, Shopify, etc.) and whether the change happened right after a bulk edit, I can help you narrow down the most likely trigger.
