Did Etsy remove the $0.78 USPS letter shipping label option?

I sell small, flat items that I usually mail as a USPS letter using Etsy shipping labels. Until recently, I could buy a low-cost letter-style label (around $0.78) through the Etsy app.

Now the cheapest label option showing in the app is closer to a standard package rate (around $4.78), and I’m not sure if I changed a setting or if Etsy updated the available services.

Did Etsy remove the USPS letter shipping label option, and if not, what settings or package details should I check to make the letter rate appear again?

Hi! Etsy hasn’t removed the USPS letter/flat label option overall (it’s still available through Etsy Shipping Labels), but it often disappears when the order is being treated as a package or when the package details don’t fit the letter/flat rules—and lately a lot of sellers have also seen the Sell on Etsy app simply not show the letter/flat services even when the same order works on desktop.

Here’s what to check so the cheap “letter” rate can appear again:

  • Package type (this is the big one): On the label purchase screen, make sure Package type = Letter (or Flat), not “Package/thick envelope/custom.”
  • Weight limits:
    • Letter: must be 3.5 oz or less
    • Flat: must be 13 oz or less
  • Dimensions limits:
    • Letter: up to 11.5" x 6.125" x 0.25"
    • Flat: up to 15" x 12" x 0.75"
  • Thickness/rigidity: Even if the envelope measurements “fit,” anything too rigid or lumpy (like a keychain, chunky bead, etc.) can cause Etsy to stop offering letter/flat options (and can also cause postage adjustments later).

If everything above looks right but your app still only shows ~Ground Advantage/package prices (like ~$4–$5), try this:

  • Buy the label on desktop Etsy (Shop Manager in a browser) or even your phone’s browser (not the app). Many sellers report letter/flat options show there when the app won’t.
  • Update the Etsy Seller app (or reinstall it) and then re-check the label screen.

If you tell me your usual weight + envelope size + approx thickness (no addresses/order details), I can tell you whether it should qualify as “Letter” or if “Flat” is the safer setting for your items.
