On Etsy, does my shop “opened” date show my join date or shop launch date?

A family member created an Etsy account years ago but never started selling. Now they’re ready to open their first Etsy shop and are wondering how Etsy will display their shop’s start date.

Will the shop show the original account join date, or will it show the date the shop is actually opened/published?

Hi! On Etsy, the date that shows on your shop (the “On Etsy since …”/years-on-Etsy shop info) is tied to when the shop was created/opened, not when the Etsy account was originally made.

So in your family member’s case:

  • If they only made a buyer account years ago and are opening the shop for the first time now, the shop will show the new shop-open year (your actual launch).
  • If they already created the shop years ago (even if they never listed anything or never made a sale), then the shop will typically keep that older “On Etsy since” year—it doesn’t reset just because you start selling later.

If they’re unsure whether a shop was “opened” back then, a quick check is: did they ever pick a shop name and get access to Shop Manager / have a shop page? If yes, that older date may be what displays. If not, you should be fine and it’ll reflect the real shop launch.
