Should I message the buyer if Etsy USPS tracking still says “awaiting package”?

• • No answers yet I sell physical items on Etsy and dropped off an order at the post office the day after it was purchased. The tracking has stayed on “USPS awaiting package,” so it looks like it never got an acceptance scan.
I already submitted a USPS missing mail request, but there haven’t been any updates yet. I’m not sure whether the package could still be moving (or even delivered) without any tracking scans.
Should I proactively message the buyer to explain the delay, and if so, when would you offer a replacement or refund versus waiting to see if tracking updates or the buyer reaches out?
