Should I use a drawing timelapse video for Etsy POD hoodie listings?

Anonymous • in 2 days • 1 answer

I’m a new Etsy seller offering print-on-demand hoodies featuring my own illustrations. I’m working on my listing media and I’m not sure what type of video will help most.

Would a timelapse video showing me creating the artwork be appropriate for a POD listing, or is it better to focus the video on the finished hoodie (for example, on-body fit and fabric details)?

Hi! Yes, a drawing timelapse can work really well for an Etsy POD hoodie listing—but if you can only do one video, you’ll usually convert more shoppers by showing the finished hoodie (on-body fit + close-ups of fabric/print), because that answers the buyer’s “what am I actually getting?” questions fast.

If you can do both, the sweet spot is:

  • Listing video: finished hoodie video (fit, drape, print scale, texture, inside/lining if relevant, cuffs/hem, drawstrings, and how the print looks in real light).
  • Extra media/marketing: the art timelapse as your “story/credibility” asset (great for social, Etsy updates, and even as an additional listing video if you have room).

A practical approach that works for POD listings:

  • Make the first 3–5 seconds show the hoodie clearly on a person (or a clean, realistic mockup-to-real comparison if you have a sample).
  • Then add 2–3 quick close-ups: fabric texture, print detail, and a side view showing thickness/drape.
  • If you include the timelapse in the listing, keep it short and clearly connected to the final design (timelapse → quick reveal of the hoodie). That way it feels relevant, not like filler.

One important POD-specific note: if you don’t have a physical sample, avoid implying you’re filming the exact hoodie the buyer will receive. In that case, the timelapse is still safe and helpful, but your main listing visuals should be strong mockups plus very clear details in photos (size/placement, color notes, and what varies between print runs).

If you tell me whether you have an actual sample hoodie in-hand (and what printing method your POD uses—DTG vs. something else), I can suggest a simple 15-second shot list that fits your exact situation.
