Why did I get an Etsy Seller Growth message in my From Etsy inbox?

I run an Etsy shop and recently received a message labeled as coming from Etsy Seller Growth. It shows up in the “From Etsy” messages area and has the Etsy staff badge, so it appears to be legitimate.

Is this a normal outreach message that other sellers receive, and is there anything I should do (or avoid doing) after getting it?

Hi! Yes — if the message is sitting in your Messages → “From Etsy” area and the sender shows the Etsy staff badge, that’s generally a normal, legitimate outreach message that many sellers receive (often from teams focused on education, marketing, policy reminders, or “growth” guidance).

What you should do (and what to avoid) really depends on what the message is asking for:

Good / normal things to do

  • Read it and treat it like an official shop tip, announcement, or invitation (often it’s optional).
  • If it mentions something you should “update” (shop settings, listings, billing, identity, bank info, etc.), don’t use any buttons/links inside the message—just open Etsy in your browser/app and navigate there yourself (Shop Manager → Settings, Listings, Finances, etc.).
  • If it’s offering a call/webinar/coaching-style help, it’s usually optional. Only accept if you’re comfortable and it clearly stays within Etsy’s official flow.

Things to avoid (even if it looks legit)

  • Don’t share sensitive info in Messages: passwords, one-time codes, full bank details, ID images, or anything you wouldn’t put into a secure Etsy form.
  • Don’t move the conversation off Etsy (email, text, WhatsApp, etc.) just because a message suggests it.
  • Don’t click random links or scan QR codes from any message (even “official-looking” ones). If you want to follow up, go to Etsy directly and find the same feature/page from within your account.

If anything feels “off”
If the message pressures you, asks for verification urgently, requests personal/financial info, or tries to route you outside Etsy, treat it as suspicious and use the Report as spam / report option in Messages.

If you paste (not screenshots, and don’t include any private details) the general gist of what the Seller Growth message is asking you to do, I can tell you whether it’s a harmless informational note vs. something you should ignore/report.
