How do I add three variation options in one Etsy listing (two colors and size)?

I’m setting up an Etsy listing for a product that comes in multiple options, and I’d like buyers to choose a primary color, a secondary color, and a size.

Is it possible to offer three separate variation dropdowns in one Etsy listing, and if not, what’s the best workaround without creating multiple listings?

Hi! On Etsy you can only add up to two variation dropdowns per Etsy listing, so you won’t be able to have three separate dropdowns for primary color + secondary color + size all at once.

The cleanest workarounds (without making multiple listings) are:

  1. Use 2 dropdowns + a required Personalization box
  • Set your two Etsy variations as Size and Primary color (or “Color”).
  • Then turn on Personalization and make it required, with wording like:
“Secondary color (required). Type the exact color name from the chart: ____”
  • Add a listing photo that shows your color chart/names so buyers type the exact match.
  1. Combine two choices into one variation
  • Make one variation “Primary + Secondary color” and list combos like “Red + White”, “Red + Black”, etc., and use the second variation for Size.
  • This works best if you only have a manageable number of color pairs (otherwise the dropdown gets huge fast).

Quick tips so you don’t get wrong orders:

  • In your description, repeat the choices in plain language: “Select Size + Primary Color, then enter Secondary Color in the box.”
  • If you use the Personalization workaround, consider adding “If left blank, I’ll message you—order may be delayed” (and then actually message them if it’s missing).

If you tell me roughly how many primary colors and secondary colors you offer (like 6 and 6 vs 20 and 20), I can tell you which workaround will be least painful for buyers.
