Do I need to send another reply just so I’m the last person in the conversation, or does the 24-hour response metric only apply when a buyer initially messages me with a question or request?

Hi! No—you don’t need to reply again just to be the last person in the thread. For Star Seller, Etsy’s 24‑hour messaging metric is based on replying to the first message in a conversation thread, not every back-and-forth message after that.
In your example (you updated them about a label change, and they replied “got it/thanks”), you don’t have to send an extra “thanks!” purely for Star Seller. Just reply when the buyer’s message actually needs a response (a question, request, problem to solve, etc.).
