How do Etsy payment reserves work, and when will I get my first deposit?

I’m a new Etsy seller and my shop was placed on a payment reserve shortly after my first sale. It’s been a few weeks, but my available balance still shows $0 and the funds are listed as “not yet available,” so I haven’t received a deposit yet.

What does “not yet available” mean under an Etsy reserve, and what needs to happen before those funds become available for payout?

Hi! On an Etsy payment reserve, “not yet available” means Etsy is holding (reserving) the money from your sale in your Payment account, so it can’t be counted as “Available for deposit” yet—so your available balance can stay at $0 until the reserve release conditions are met (and any fees/refunds are covered).

Here’s what usually needs to happen before those funds become available for payout:

  • The order ships with valid tracking (fastest release for physical items): If you add a tracking number (or buy an Etsy shipping label) and Etsy can confirm the package is in transit, the reserved portion can be released much sooner.
  • Or the reserve holding period expires (if tracking isn’t confirmed): If Etsy can’t verify tracking (or you don’t provide tracking), the funds are typically released after Etsy’s default reserve holding period shown in your Payment account reserve details. (Many sellers see up to around 45 days from the sale date for reserved funds, depending on what Etsy set for the shop.)
  • It also has to clear Etsy’s “new seller” deposit timing: Even without a reserve, new shops commonly have a delay before funds become available for deposit (often around 14–20 days after a sale, sometimes longer depending on shop standing). If you’re only a few weeks in, this can be part of what you’re seeing.
  • Your Payment account can’t be eaten up by fees/refunds: Listing fees, transaction fees, shipping label purchases, ads, refunds, etc. can reduce what’s available. If fees are taking the whole amount, “Available for deposit” may still show $0 even though you made a sale.
  • Your bank/identity info must be complete: If Etsy needs you to confirm seller details, verify your bank, or you recently changed bank details (which can trigger a short security hold), deposits won’t go out until that’s cleared.

A quick way to troubleshoot is: go to Shop Manager → Finances → Payment account and look for the Reserve section (it should show the reserve % and the estimated availability timing). Then open the order and make sure it’s marked shipped and has valid tracking that shows movement—because that’s the most common reason funds stay “not yet available” for weeks with a reserve.

If you tell me whether you’re selling physical items or digital downloads, and whether you uploaded tracking that shows “in transit,” I can help you narrow down what’s most likely delaying your first deposit.
