How do I fix Etsy Seller app AirPrint shipping label formatting on iPhone?

Anonymous • tomorrow • 1 answer

I sell physical items and print shipping labels from the Etsy Seller app on my iPhone using AirPrint. When I print directly from the app, the label output has a large blank gap at the top and doesn’t fit the label correctly.

If I print the same label from a browser on my phone/computer, or through my printer’s own label app, it prints normally. What settings or steps can I use to get AirPrint from the Etsy Seller app to format and print the label correctly?

Hi! That “big blank gap at the top” is almost always AirPrint scaling the Etsy label PDF as if it’s a Letter/A4 page instead of a true 4×6 label—so the quickest fix is to avoid printing directly from the Etsy Seller app and instead print the downloaded PDF from iOS (Files/Preview) or from Etsy in a browser, where you can keep the scale at 100% and select the correct paper size.

A few things to try (in order):

  1. Make sure Etsy is generating a true 4×6 label (not a 4×6 image on an 8.5×11 page)
  • On Etsy.com (not the app), go to Shop Manager → Settings → Shipping settings → Shipping Label Options.
  • Set your label format to Label printer (4×6) (wording can vary).
  • Important: after changing this, re-download/recreate the label PDF. Old labels may stay in the old format.
  1. Use a “download then print” workflow on iPhone (usually fixes the gap)
  • In the Etsy Seller app, download the shipping label (PDF) to your iPhone.
  • Open it from the Files app (or in a PDF viewer like Adobe Acrobat if you use that).
  • Tap Share → Print and in the print options:
    • Select Paper Size: 4×6 (or 100×150 mm, depending on the printer)
    • Set Scale to 100% / Actual Size (avoid “Fit to Page” if you see it)
    • Choose the correct tray/media type if your printer shows it

Why this works: the app’s “Print” button can hand AirPrint a layout that gets treated like a full page, and AirPrint adds margins/offsets—printing the saved PDF from Files is often cleaner.

  1. Double-check your printer defaults (this matters a lot with thermal label printers)
  • In your printer’s own app/utility (or printer settings), confirm:
    • Default label size is 4×6
    • Orientation is Portrait
    • Any “Scaling,” “Fit,” “Shrink/Expand,” or “Margins” options are off (or set to Actual)
  • If your printer has a calibrate media / label gap sensor option, run it once after changing label rolls.
  1. If you need a reliable workaround today
  • Keep doing what you already noticed works: print the Etsy label from a browser (Safari/Chrome) or share the PDF into your printer’s label app and print from there. A lot of sellers do this because the Etsy Seller app’s AirPrint output can be inconsistent.

If you tell me which label printer you’re using (Rollo, Zebra, DYMO 4XL, Brother, etc.) and whether your Etsy labels are USPS (or another carrier), I can point you to the exact setting names you should be looking for on that model.
