Why does my Etsy order have no ship-by date, and is it safe to ship?

I sell physical items on Etsy and I received an order that looks unusual in my order details. The payment shows as completed and the funds have already been deposited to my bank, but the order isn’t showing a clear ship-by date like my other orders.

I want to ship it today, but I’m worried the order could still fail or get canceled after I mail it. What should I check in Etsy before I ship an order that has no ship-by date, and is it better to wait until something updates?

Hi! If the order shows Paid/Completed (not “Payment processing”) and it’s sitting in your normal Orders & Shipping list ready to fulfill, it’s generally safe to ship—even if Etsy isn’t displaying a ship‑by date. The missing ship‑by date is usually a settings/glitch issue (not a sign the payment will fail), but you should do a couple quick checks so you don’t ship something that later gets canceled/refunded.

Here’s what I’d check in Etsy before you mail it:

  1. Confirm the order is truly paid and not under review
  • In Shop Manager → Orders & Shipping, open the order and make sure it’s not labeled Payment processing (or anything similar).
  • If it’s paid and you can Complete order / buy a label, that’s a good sign.
  1. Look for anything that would pause/complicate shipping
  • Any open case on the order (rare immediately, but check if you see alerts).
  • Any message from Etsy in the order details about reviewing the transaction or restricting shipment.
  • Make sure the shipping address is complete and looks deliverable (name, street, unit #, ZIP). If anything is missing, message the buyer to confirm before shipping.
  1. Figure out why the ship‑by date is missing (common causes)
This usually happens when Etsy can’t calculate it, for example:
  • One item in a multi-item order doesn’t have a processing time set (that can cause the whole order to show no ship‑by date).
  • A listing/shipping setup is missing info needed for delivery estimates.
  • A temporary Etsy display bug (this pops up occasionally).

If you want to “force” clarity for yourself, open the order and look for an option like Update ship by date (or similar). Even if Etsy didn’t show one, setting/updating the ship date there helps you stay organized and protects your on-time shipping metrics.

A quick note on your main worry: yes, an order can still be canceled/refunded after you ship (buyer requests, cases, chargebacks, etc.), even if funds were deposited. That’s true for any platform. What reduces your risk is shipping to the address on the order, shipping within your stated processing time, and using tracking (or an Etsy label) so you have proof it shipped.

Should you wait?
Only wait if the order shows any sign of being processing/reviewed, the address looks wrong/incomplete, or you can’t meet the processing time you advertise. Otherwise, I’d ship today—just make sure you complete the order with tracking as soon as you hand it to the carrier.
