Why is my Etsy Payments balance not available for deposit after 90 days?

I run an Etsy shop selling digital downloads, and I started getting orders about three months ago. My current Etsy Payments balance shows funds, but the amount is still not appearing as “available for deposit,” and I don’t see any notice about a reserve or a payout delay.

What are the most common reasons Etsy would hold a balance this long, and what steps should I check or take to get my payouts released?

Hi! If your Etsy Payments balance shows money but Available for deposit is still $0 (or doesn’t increase) after ~90 days, it usually means Etsy considers those funds not “eligible” to pay out yet—most often because of account verification/bank issues, a payout minimum/schedule issue, fees/refunds eating the available amount, or an internal hold/delay that isn’t labeled as a “reserve.”

Here are the most common reasons this happens (and what to check), especially for digital download shops:

  1. You’re looking at “Balance” (gross) but fees/refunds are keeping “Available for deposit” at $0
In your Payment account, Etsy can show a positive balance while your “available” amount is effectively being offset by things like:
  • Listing fees, transaction fees, Etsy Ads charges
  • Refunds/chargebacks/cases (even one can tie up availability)
  • Sales tax/VAT handling in certain situations
  • A “current balance” that includes money not yet cleared

What to do: In Finances → Payment account, review the activity/statement line-by-line and see whether fees are being taken out of each sale so that “available” never rises.

  1. Deposit schedule + deposit minimum (so it never triggers a payout)
Even when funds are available, Etsy won’t send a deposit if:
  • Your deposit schedule is set to weekly/biweekly/monthly and you’re expecting daily, and/or
  • Your available amount is below the minimum deposit threshold for your payout currency

What to do: Check Finances → Payment settings and confirm:

  • Deposit frequency (daily vs weekly/monthly)
  • Any “minimum deposit” messaging (if you’re under it, nothing is sent)
  1. Bank details were changed or haven’t fully verified (common silent blocker)
If your bank account info was updated recently, Etsy can place a short security hold where funds aren’t available for deposit for a bit. Also, if Etsy can’t verify your bank details, deposits may fail or not initiate.

What to do:

  • Confirm the bank account is correct (name matches, routing/account numbers, etc.)
  • Look for any “deposit failed” history or payout error prompts
  • If you changed bank info in the last week, allow a few business days—then re-check “available”
  1. Identity / tax / seller verification is incomplete (sometimes it doesn’t look like a “reserve”)
Etsy can restrict payouts until required verification is done (ID verification, taxpayer info, business info, etc.). Sometimes sellers miss an email or a banner, and the shop can still make sales while payouts don’t release normally.

What to do:

  • In Shop Manager, look for any banners in Finances or Payment settings
  • Check your Etsy email + spam/junk for verification requests
  • Make sure all legal name/address/tax fields are complete and consistent
  1. A payment hold / deposit delay for risk review (not always shown as a “reserve”)
Even if you don’t see a “reserve” notice, Etsy can still delay deposits when their systems flag something (sudden sales spikes, unusual traffic patterns, disputes risk, policy concerns, etc.). This can be extra common with digital items because delivery is instant and disputes can happen quickly.

What to do:

  • Double-check you have no open cases, chargebacks, or unusual refund activity
  • Make sure your listings match Etsy policies (no copyright/trademark problems, no prohibited items, accurate descriptions)
  • If everything looks clean and it’s truly been around 90 days since your first sale, move to the last step below

If you want the fastest path to a real answer

  1. Screenshot (for yourself) the Payment account showing: Balance, Available for deposit, Amount due, and recent activity (don’t share private info).
  2. Check Payment settings (deposit schedule + bank) and any verification prompts.
  3. If “Available for deposit” still hasn’t changed and there are no banners/emails explaining why, contact Etsy Support and ask specifically:
  • “Is my shop under a payment hold/deposit delay?”
  • “Is there any verification requirement blocking payouts?”
  • “Are deposits failing due to bank verification or payout minimums?”

If you tell me your deposit schedule (daily/weekly/monthly), your shop’s first sale date (approx.), and whether your Payment account shows an Amount due or any recent fee spikes/refunds, I can help you narrow it down quickly.
