Why is my new Etsy shop ID verification taking so long?

I’m trying to open a new Etsy shop, and I submitted my identity verification documents before a holiday. My shop is still stuck in holiday mode, and I haven’t been able to get a clear update from support, even though I was previously told someone would follow up within a few days.

Is it normal for Etsy ID verification to take this long, and what steps can I take to check the status or move the verification process along?

Hi! Yes—Etsy ID verification can take longer than “a few days,” especially if you submitted right before a weekend/holiday or if Etsy’s system flags anything to be reviewed manually. Being stuck in “holiday/vacation mode” during onboarding usually just means Etsy still can’t let the shop go live until one of the required checks (identity, bank, taxpayer details, or payout setup) fully clears.

Here’s what you can do to check the real status and nudge it forward:

1) Look for the exact “blocker” inside Shop Manager (not just the storefront)

  • Log in on a desktop browser if you can (some steps don’t show as clearly in the app).
  • In Shop Manager, check for any red banners/alerts and open every “Action required” item.
  • Specifically review:
    • Finances → Payment settings (payout/bank verification issues often keep a shop paused)
    • Finances → Payment account (any verification prompts)
    • Settings → Legal and tax information (missing/mismatched info can stall review)

2) Make sure your details match perfectly
The most common reason verification drags on is a mismatch (even a small one) between:

  • your legal name on your government ID,
  • your taxpayer/legal info,
  • and sometimes the name on your bank account.

If you used a nickname, a shortened name, different spacing, or an old address in one place, fix it everywhere Etsy allows you to edit.

3) Check your email + Etsy Messages carefully (including spam/promotions)
Etsy often sends the “next step” as an email prompt (or a request to re-submit a clearer photo/selfie). If they asked for a re-upload and it’s missed, you can sit in limbo.

4) Don’t keep re-submitting tickets (it can slow things down)
If you’ve already contacted support, avoid opening multiple new requests for the same issue. In a lot of support systems, new tickets can split the case, change the queue position, or make it harder for one agent to finish the review cleanly.

5) If it’s actually a bank/payout verification delay, treat that separately
Some sellers think it’s “ID verification,” but the hold is really payout/bank verification. If Etsy is waiting on a test deposit/bank confirmation or a document review, that process can take a few business days after you complete the step, and it won’t move on weekends/holidays.

6) If you’re being routed through Payoneer (usually outside the US), contact Payoneer too
If your Etsy payouts are set up through Payoneer, your identity/bank verification may need to clear on Payoneer’s side and successfully sync back to Etsy. In that situation, Etsy support alone sometimes can’t speed it up.

If you tell me (1) what country you’re in, and (2) whether your Payment settings mention Payoneer or Plaid, I can point you to the most likely “stuck” step and what screen usually shows the missing requirement.
