How do I add three variations (two colors + size) in one Etsy listing?

I sell items that come in multiple color combinations and sizes. For each order, buyers need to choose a primary color, a secondary color, and a size.

Does Etsy allow more than two variation options in a single listing, and if not, what’s the best workaround to offer all three choices without creating multiple separate listings?

Hi! Etsy only lets you add up to two variation options in a single Etsy listing (for example: Color + Size), so you can’t natively make buyers choose primary color + secondary color + size as three separate dropdowns in one listing.

The cleanest workarounds are:

  1. Use 2 variations + required personalization (best for most shops)
  • Variation 1: Primary color
  • Variation 2: Size
  • Turn on the Personalization box and make it required, and use it for Secondary color (tell buyers exactly what to type, e.g., “Secondary color: ___”).
This keeps checkout structured, and you’ll see their selection on the order.
  1. Combine the two colors into one variation, and keep size as the second variation (best if you have a small set of combos)
  • Variation 1: “Color combo” (options like “Black + Gold”, “Black + Silver”, etc.)
  • Variation 2: Size
This is great when you only offer, say, 6–20 common combinations and you want fewer “typed” mistakes.

A couple quick tips so you don’t get messy orders:

  • If you use the personalization workaround, add a line in your description and a listing photo that says “Don’t forget to enter your secondary color.”
  • If certain primary/secondary pairs aren’t allowed, spell that out (or list the allowed combos), otherwise you’ll get a lot of “surprise” combos you didn’t intend to offer.

If you tell me roughly how many primary colors, secondary colors, and sizes you offer, I can suggest which setup will be the least confusing (and least work) for your exact catalog.
