How do I regain access to my Etsy account if 2FA is tied to an old phone?

I’m trying to log into my Etsy account, but after resetting my password it’s requiring two-factor authentication to a phone number I no longer have access to. It also asks for backup/recovery codes, but I don’t have those saved.

I’m stuck in a loop where I’m directed to contact support, but I can’t find a way to reach account recovery for help with updating my 2FA details. What’s the correct way to recover my Etsy account and remove or change the old two-factor phone number?

Hi! If you don’t have the old phone number and you don’t have your Etsy 2FA backup/recovery codes, the only “legit” way back in is through Etsy’s account access support flow—there isn’t a self-serve way to remove or change 2-step verification without either (1) the code sent to that phone/authenticator or (2) a backup code.

Here’s what to do (this is the path that actually routes you to the right place):

  1. Try the fastest fixes first
  • See if you’re still logged in anywhere (Etsy app on an old phone/tablet, a browser that stayed signed in). If you are, go straight to your account security settings and change/disable 2FA and add a new number/authenticator.
  • Try to regain the phone number with your mobile carrier (SIM swap to a new SIM, or reclaim the number if it’s still available). This is often quicker than Etsy verification.
  • Double-check if you saved backup codes anywhere (password manager, screenshots, printed copy, downloaded file).
  1. Use Etsy’s “I can’t sign in” → “I still need help” route
  • In Etsy Help Center, open the article called “I Can’t Sign In to My Account.”
  • In the section about trouble with two-factor authentication, choose the option that says “I still need help” (wording can vary slightly, but that’s the idea).
  • That should lead you into the Contact support flow specifically for sign-in / 2-step verification problems.
  1. If Etsy forces you to sign in to contact support
Etsy often requires you to be signed in to contact support, so the workaround is:
  • Create a new Etsy account (with a different email) just so you can access the support/contact form, then submit the request for the locked account.
  • In your message, clearly state you cannot access 2FA (old phone number) and have no backup codes, and ask them to reset/disable 2-step verification so you can re-enroll with your new device/number.

A couple important notes:

  • Don’t trust any “Etsy support phone number” you find on Google—scammers target this exact situation. Etsy support is generally handled through their on-site contact options (and sometimes a requested callback).
  • After you’re back in, immediately re-set your Etsy account security: add a new 2FA method and save the new backup codes somewhere safe (password manager is ideal).

If you tell me whether you still have access to the email on the account and whether you’re logged in on any device at all, I can point you to the quickest branch of the steps above.
