Hi! Yes — if your Etsy listing is set to automatic renewal, you’ll be charged the listing renewal fee again (currently $0.20 USD) each time an item sells and the listing “renews” to keep it available, even if the next one will be made to order instead of coming from stock. Etsy doesn’t really care why you have another unit available (stock vs on-demand) — it’s basically charging per unit you sell / relist.

A practical way to manage this (so you don’t get surprised by renewals) is to decide what the “Quantity” number means in your shop:

  • Option A (most common for made-to-order): set Quantity to your available production slots.
Example: if you can handle 5 orders this week, set quantity to 5. Each sale will trigger a renewal fee as it keeps the listing active, and you just adjust quantity up/down as your workload changes. Pair this with an accurate processing time.

  • Option B: separate “Ready to ship” vs “Made to order” listings.
Use one Etsy listing for in-stock pieces with a shorter processing time (“ready to ship”), and another listing for made-to-order with your normal processing time. This avoids confusion for buyers and makes your capacity/quantities cleaner.

  • Option C: keep Quantity at 1 and renew manually (more control, more work).
If you prefer to decide each time whether to reopen orders, set the listing to manual renewal and keep quantity at 1. When it sells, the listing ends, and you choose when to renew it again.

If you tell me roughly how many orders you can comfortably make per week and how often you have ready-to-ship pieces, I can suggest the cleanest setup for your quantities, processing times, and renewal settings.
