Why was I charged an Etsy Offsite Ads fee but the order isn’t marked?

Anonymous • tomorrow • 1 answer

I run an Etsy shop and just received an order that includes an Offsite Ads fee in the cost breakdown. However, when I look at the order details, it doesn’t show the usual Offsite Ads indicator icon that I’ve seen on other orders.

What could cause an Offsite Ads charge to appear without the order being clearly labeled, and where should I check to confirm whether the sale actually came from an Offsite Ad?

Hi! If you see an Offsite Ads fee in the order cost breakdown, that’s your strongest confirmation Etsy attributed that order to an Offsite Ad—even if the usual little “Offsite Ads” badge/icon isn’t showing on the order page you’re looking at. The missing label is usually a display/UI issue (different views show different tags, the mobile app doesn’t always surface the same indicators as desktop, or the order detail page sometimes just doesn’t show the badge consistently).

The best place to confirm the true source is your Offsite Ads dashboard:

  • Go to Shop Manager → Marketing → Offsite Ads
  • Look for the order there (you should be able to match by order date/number)
  • Etsy will typically show details like the channel/site (Google, Facebook, Pinterest, etc.), the date the buyer clicked, the listing that was clicked, and the order that got attributed

A couple common “why it’s charged but not labeled” scenarios:

  • 30‑day attribution window: The buyer may have clicked an Offsite Ad days/weeks ago, then came back directly and purchased later—Etsy can still attribute the order to that earlier Offsite Ad click.
  • Clicked one listing, bought another: The Offsite Ad might have promoted Listing A, but the buyer purchased Listing B (or multiple items). The fee can still apply to the order, and the icon on the purchased listing/order view can be inconsistent.
  • Viewing the order in a different interface: The badge may show on desktop Shop Manager but not on the Etsy Seller app (or vice versa), or it may show in one order list view but not inside the full order details.

If you check Marketing → Offsite Ads and you don’t see that order listed there (but the fee is definitely on the order breakdown / payment activity), that’s when it’s worth reaching out to Etsy Support and asking them to verify the attribution—because the dashboard is the official “source of truth” for Offsite Ads attribution.
